Appearance:
Humanoid form - he is seven feet tall, waist length silver hair with long bangs, cold golden eyes, long white bushy tail, white furred fox ears, pale skin. Long, thin limbs, compact musculature. He wears a white sleeveless yukata and martial arts pants and shoes. He's a very sensual, handsome creature in this form.
Fox form - a silver-furred fox with seven tails and red eyes, about as large as an average sized dog.

Youko is a thief, leader of a band of demon thieves fairly well known across the demon world. They would sneak into castles and strongholds that bore treasures they could sell for profit. But one of his thieves (his right-hand, Yomi) kept disobeying and caused a great deal of unnecessary work, sloppy, and Youko eventually hired someone to kill him. This eventually somewhat came back to bite him, for Yomi later became a very powerful demon, one of the three kings, and discovered Youko's treachery, though only sought to use his weakness (his human mother, during the series) to control Youko. He disbanded his thieving gang and paired up with a bat demon, Kuronue, who became something of a friend. Unfortunately Kuronue died in a trap after a theft, and Youko opted to continue working alone unless he needed assistance.

Later, he would be badly injured by a special unit sent by the spirit world, and ended up fleeing to the human world to recover. He took over a human foetus and went through early human childhood by the name of Shuichi Minamino, planning to wait for his spirit to recover so he could return to the demon world. He was cruel to his human mother, believing her beneath him until she risked her life to save his. That's when things changed, and he worked to become a good son to her. He later became first allies, then good friends with a fellow demon, Hiei, and humans Yusuke Urameshi, Kazuma Kuwabara, and the grim reaper Botan, where they went on many adventures and worked to maintain the peace between the human, spirit, and demon worlds. He fought in a couple tournaments, as well, playing important roles in his 'team's wins. He became Yomi's second in command for a time.

Even after his full demon powers returned, he stayed in the human world and kept up the façade for his human family, going to school and being a dutiful son. (Note, he struck up a bargain with Yusuke because he wanted to use a magic item to heal his human mother, even though he knew his own life would be taken instead, and it lead to their friendship.)

Personality:
He is a genius, cunning, charming, manipulative, cruel, calculating, and curious. He enjoys games and riddles, twisting everything to his own means so he always comes out on top in a given situation. He's also cold (coldly detached, as well), sadistic, merciless, ruthless, and ambitious to become powerful enough to rival the demon kings Raizen and Mukuro and make his own kingdom through any means necessary.

He can be loyal - though once someone who'd held his loyalty proved unworthy to it, he would discard them. He's also very vain, and takes pride in himself and his skills, willing to tackle things just to prove he could. He's willing to take blows and feign weakness in a fight while he figures out his opponent's weakness and how to best defeat or kill them before acting.

He is highly playful. Pokes and prods at everything he can get his claws on, teasing and taunting to learn everything he can about those around him. To learn their deepest secrets and peel back all their layers. Partially because of this, he is feared and respected in the spirit and demon worlds, to the point where Hiei later states that he only sought to be on Kurama's side so that he wouldn't have to fight him. Even other powerful characters state they'd rather fight on his side, than against him, or clearly fear his power, skill, and ruthlessness.

Abilities:
He is a kitsune, a spirit fox (only in this fox form can he become intangible). He's old and powerful enough to be considered a demon. As such he has enhanced senses (smell, sight, hearing, taste), strength, endurance, and reflexes.

Long life/hard to kill - he is highly unlikely to die through old age. He can be wounded or poisoned or fall ill and sicken to death if he does not 'cheat' by taking possession of another living thing to regain his energy. He can also come very very near death before returning stronger than before.

Shape-shifting - he's only shown to have two forms before canon: his fox form, and his silver-haired, fox eared and tailed male figure as described in the appearance section (the human form only is gained after possessing the body of Shuichi Minamino).

Telepathy - limited, mainly to demons/others with telepathic ability. No mind-reading, though he's observant and intelligent enough to figure out surface thoughts/desires/intentions given time.

Nature skills - aka plant mastery. He can manipulate and push his energy into seeds to make them grow rapidly into weapons, into grown plants to make them reverse their growth, to control their actions. He can use appropriate plants to heal or poison, trap or torture.

Intelligence - he is extremely intelligent and cunning, able to figure out patterns, traps, and manipulate and use everything to his advantage.
